  • 400+ horsepower Volkswagen 3.0 liter twin turbo VR6 engine rumored?

This is an odd rumor as such an exciting powerplant should have much more anticipation, fanfare, and details. VWBoost is having trouble finding confirmation of this engine but multiple sites are reported a new Volkswagen Arteon R model will get such a powerplant.

VWBoost hopes this is true as the VR6 is well known as a stout aftermarket powerplant when it comes to taking boost. There are versions at 3.8 liters of displacement and many making quadruple digit power.

A new twin turbo VR6 from the factory would be huge. Imagine if the Volkswagen Golf R received this powerplant for example. It would completely change Volkswagen's performance image.

Keep in mind that while the VR6 is a popular motor throughout VW's history it was never produced from the factory in turbo form.

This 3.0 liter 400+ horsepower VR6 rumor for the Arteon R was heard back in 2017 so we will not hold our breath but it would be incredible if it happens.

Can confirm this engine does exist (and has for some time) but it is unknown if VW will bring it to market.

Rumors also say that test mules (G7) been spotted with a 2.5T VR6 ( based on the engine is used in the Atlas/Teramont).

So the chances look not bad we get a turbocharged VR6 in the near future.

Wow, VW may have its own answer to the 2.5 TFSI.
