    Driven 3 of the 4 cars, had a E90 M3.

Most recent test drive of the RS5 was a couple weeks ago. Honestly, I really like the RS5. If the cars where somewhat equally optioned/priced, I would choose the RS5. It just felt like a special car. Also felt very well built, had a over-engineered quality to it.

Looking forward to the new Cayman.

I think the car comparison is boring compared to the transmission terminology debate, lol.

Why don't people like the term "semi-automated" and why does it have have to always been black or white, and not grey?

Because most people are stupid and can't handle it when things aren't one or the other. Oh no, a third thing? Confused.

2 pedal trans with torque converter = auto
2 pedal trans with automatically controlled clutches = semi-auto
3 pedal trans with manually operated clutch by the user = MANual

Why is this subject always so complicated? Lets not talk about this more please. Some people will never accept their automatically operated trans be called an auto due to whatever reasons, mainly pride.

Or because it isn't an auto. Some people just don't accept incorrect terms applied because it is easier for others to comprehend it that way.

It's irrelevant whether you own one or not. It's equipped with a dual clutch transmission.

yes, its dual clutch, but it shift automatically, hence its automatic. there is no requirement for it to be manually shifted.

Oh but there is a requirement to shift it automatically?

You don't get it, just like other people don't get it, that the term in automotive use denotes a certain type of gearbox. We're talking about transmissions not literal interpretations of words.

Secondly, the dual clutch has more technically in common with a manual than an automatic.

Some people are just plain stupid.

Its an interesting comparo however I would buy any of these cars for the money...

That being said I do love the body and look of the S5 I think its a well designed car inside and out. The Boxster for me is a great platform but I would want it in the Cayman S form to me that is where the platform shines. The Mercedes to me isnt and never will be a sports car its a Grand Tourer no matter much power it has, plus its ugly to boot. But thats my opinion. The M3 to me is a little bit overpriced but for me I would just buy a Boss 302 they are comparable to me and I enjoy a good bang for the buck if you will. What the test really highlights is how diverse the market is at that price point.

You can get a mid-engine/rwd/vert or a front engine/awd/coupe or one of two front engine/rwd/coupes each with their own flavor. I will admit the Benz is faster around the road course than I would have expected and to be on the M's as was a shocker. It shows the M's chassis is dated and its time for the new version to show up. The M is getting caught or left behind at this point, thats very un BMW to not be on the ball. The S5 really showed its ass in terms of its lap time but I suspect the Boxster is the best balanced car there and the easiest to get more time out of. I could be wrong there however

Boxster doesn't look like it belongs in the test other than price but man it keeps up really well!
