What new cell phone to buy? Iphone 5? Galaxy S III?

Well I can't find my Iphone, guess I lost it. Or more accurately Mexicans stole it.

Anyway, time for a new phone and I'm not sure what to get. I want the best out and am thinking maybe it's time to move away from the Iphone although I do like it.

I want the ability to tether the phone and download music straight to the library which you can do with a jailbroken iphone.

    Suggestions?

Whetever you get, you should look for an App that tells you when you've pushed way to much with racist jokes in one day.

    Samsung S3 FTW.
But, as you americans like to spend way too much, and are all Apple adepts, a iPhone5 will probably be better for you.

HAH I could use that sometimes.

Sticky, sorry to say 'should've', but find my iPhone is a must have app. Too late now

I wasn't making a racist joke, that's what really happened. Sorry it's reality...

Had that app on there, does nothing if they change the SIM card.

When you get an Android, use the Lostphone app.
It will lock the phone, prevent a new SIM card to be used (password required or brick), can sms you the location of the phone, can make an alarm go off really loud if you're in a bar for instance(as long as they haven't removed the original SIM). It can even wipe the phone of all data if you want to.

That sounds incredibly useful, way more than the lostmyphone app for the Iphone.

We'll see what phone I go with, maybe I'll wait for some new phones to come out?

There are always new phones coming out.
It's like waiting for a new laptop.
The new phone cycle is about 6 months, so in about 3 months new updates on the S3 will probably come out.
The new hype is Windows8 phones right now.
IMO usefull if you have a W8 PC as well, for synchronization purposes.
Performancwise the W8 phones that compare to the Galaxy S3 are almost as expensive as an iPhone5 or even more expensive.
+ there are way less apps for W8 phones, no matter how much effort Microsoft puts into it to get it slightly up to par.

Just get an iPhone 5 man. You'll regret getting something else. I have tried a Galaxy S III. My girl has one for her work, and the feeling of quality and reliability compared to the iPhones is just not all there. I used to have android phones before my iPhone 4S and they sucked big time, after a few months of use, they would slow down and become unreliable. Also, the quality of the build compared to the iPhones, specially the new iPhone 5 sucks big time. I'll never go back to Android any time soon after experiencing 3 android phones. My girl thinks the same, and many of my friends.

The only good thing about the androids, and the thing most of their uses brag about and swear by, is that you can do more stuff with them, and are cheap compared to the iPhones, and that may be true, but the iPhone does everything I want it to do, while feeling great in my hand. The Galaxy 3S is $#@!ing HUGE!!! it's hard to do everything with one finger, because of its massive size, and doesn't feel good in your pockets. Not much thought was put into it when it comes to ergonomics. All they cared about is to throw a big ass screen on it, and call it a day.

Hope this helps out in your choice. Good luck man! With whatever you decide to go for.

If you're thinking about the LG Optimus let me show you what I will get as a new phone:

    https://play.google.com/store/device...d=nexus_4_16gb

The Nexus 4 phone is a "Google phone." The advantages of this is that you would get a phone with none of the bloatware by the phone companies. You put on the software you want, it will never come with crap from Verizon, Tmobile, Sprint, or AT&T that you can't remove from the phone. It will also run the latest Android OS, no waiting time for the wireless providers to put on their bloatware and then release the OS update to you.

The price is great for an unlocked phone with no contract.

I suggest you read this and see if this phone can offer you what you would like.

Looking into this now, I'm digging it especially the 360 photos and the wireless charging.

Once it hits the release next week on Tuesday only 2 variants will be available, the 8gb and the 16gb. Quite possibly further down the road there might be a 32gb released but then again we might not. Google didn't say why release a phone with such a small onboard space but we all know why, they want you to use their cloud storage which id Drive. I personally don't store a lot on my phone, my music streams off the pc so the only things that will take up space in my phone are photos/videos.

I store music, photos, and videos. I got close to maxing out my 64 gig Iphone so this amount of space just won't do. I have like 15 gigs of music.

iPhone is SO played out at this point to be honest. I've had every one from 2G (first one) to the 4S and in the end just got tired of the same old iOS look and feel and locked-down-everything.

In January I got a Google Nexus (Samsung built). Runs the latest Jellybean version of the Android OS and its by far better than the iPhone in all aspects from the battery, signal, screen size, apps that I use and far more customizable. If I were getting a phone right now it'd be the new Nexus 4 (now LG built):

Quite possibly this isn't the phone for you. I have far more music on my pc and copying all that to my phone is obviously not practical. There currently isn't a phone on the market that can hold my music library, so I have to resort to other things. I haven't jumped onto the cloud storage train just yet, so I take a different route. Stream it off my computer to my phone, works perfectly fine, I have no issues with it. I realize that this approach may not be practical to other people since it does put a dent in your data plan, but if you're one of the lucky ones, and have an old data plan, back when the phone companies were releasing unlimited everything (which is what I have) then it doesn't really matter.

There are other phones which are very powerful as well. Currently the best selling phone in the world is the already mentioned Samsung Galaxy SIII.

There is also another one that recently was released. The term coined for it is a "phablet" since it's both, tablet and phone. It's the Samsung Note II, a very powerful phone, for most users, complete overkill, but people seem to love it and can't get enough of it:

    http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/8/34...note-ii-review

Be warned the phone is big, and it does come in the storage choice you seek, 16, 32 and 64gb. One of the coolest features it has over the others is that it supports multi-tasking in a different way than the current phones. It can do split screen multitasking where you can run 2 or 3 apps side by side. Not all carriers actually offer that since they get to tinker with the software. Not all apps support this feature, but with more time and more users going for this device they will. If you have the balls you can also flash a custom rom on this phone and that gives you a whole lot more apps to run in that mode than the stock device does. Here is a demonstration:

You have to take in the price as well. What other unlocked phone on the market can you buy for 350 dollars that offers all the features the Nexus 4 does. Absolutely none, make no mistake about it, it is a high end phone for a mid phone price. But like I already said, this phone is not for everybody and it does target the more "techy end user" vs. the more casual mainstream one. And there are ways around the small storage space, offered by the phone. Cloud services being one and streaming as the other.
